ESI Deploys Flexera License Management Solution Offering Pay-to-Use Options

March 14, 2012

Strategic Application Usage Management solution developer Flexera Software announced that ESI (News - Alert) Group, virtual prototyping for manufacturing industries solution provider, has purchased FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications. ESI will derive the benefits of FlexNet manager’s flexible, usage-based licensing models for customers that are using ESI’s “FlexEnabled” applications.

Flexera noted that FlexNet is usually acquired as an Enterprise License Optimization solution that permits businesses to produce detailed usage reports for FlexEnabled applications. These reports simplify license optimization and compliance procedures. Users also benefit from FlexNet Manager’s detailed reports that allow pay-for-use licensing models, the company said in a statement.

“To remain competitive, it is important that we follow the market trend of offering flexible and customized software package and pricing options to our customers,” Hervé Charlier, technical director at ESI Group, commented in a statement. “Integrating a third party solution from market-leader, Flexera Software, will allow us to do this without distracting us from our core activity of developing cutting-edge applications for our markets. Flexera Software’s focus on license management and continual enhancements help ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of licensing and that our investment is future-proof.”

ESI applications are deployed across diverse manufacturing sectors, including automotive, aerospace, heavy industry, energy, electronics, defense and consumer goods.  ESI solutions forecast product development lifecycles - from design to manufacture through to testing the limits of product performance.

This mitigates the requirement of physical product testing. By streamlining this process, ESI applications speed innovation and automate best practice deployment. Flexera noted that several automotive and aerospace manufacturers employ ESI software to conduct crash simulations as well as assess component safety, compliance and behavioral testing.

The ESI’s solution can be deployed on a feature-specific basis, permitting manufacturers to evaluate products during the engineering and manufacturing process. With FlexNet Manager, ESI can implement additional monetization models enabling payment for customer usage of these individual application features. Pre-paid and post-paid payment methods are available to the utilization of the solution’s individual capabilities. This creates significantly flexible licensing and pricing and new revenue streams for ESI.

FlexNet Publisher licensing technology is embedded in the ESI solution. This technology tracks usage data for specific features automatically. Once the solution has compiled this data, it prepares accurate and detailed reporting on usage. ESI uses these reports to bill users for the use of specific features on a periodic basis.

“The massive changes in the software industry as customers demand different pricing and monetization models, such as pay for use, underscore the growing complexity of software licensing. Software vendors increasingly are looking to Flexera Software for turnkey licensing and entitlement solutions that allow them to keep up with industry demands without diverting focus from their core competencies,” said Vincent Smyth, general manager of Flexera Software EMEA.
