Microsoft Technology to Help Modernize Department of Defense

January 11, 2013

Microsoft’s (News - Alert) longstanding relationships with the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force and DISA helped it secure the most comprehensive licensing agreement with the three organizations, which were looking to modernize their technology infrastructure.

“This agreement enables us to provide the best technology tools to an incredibly broad range of servicemen and servicewomen across the Department of Defense (DoD), and we are looking forward to implementing to support their mission goals,” said Tim Solms, general manager, Microsoft Department of Defense Business.

One of the largest global Microsoft Large Account Resellers, Insight Public Sector, a division of Insight Enterprises Inc., was awarded the contract.

As part of the three-year transformative agreement, the three organizations will be provided with a vehicle for accessing the latest Microsoft technologies and solutions, and is expected to cover almost 75 percent of all Department of Defense personnel.

While access to Office 2013 will provide these organizations with the latest version of productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint that personnel rely on every day, SharePoint 2013 Enterprise will enable easy cross exchange of information between the three organizations.

In addition, the increasingly mobile DoD workforce will also use Windows 8 so that personnel can operate from anywhere, on any device at anytime, securely.

Specific departments from the U.S. Army and the Air Force have been working closely with Microsoft on achieving Army Golden Master and Air Force Standard Desktop Configuration compliance for Windows 8.

With more than 225,000 active duty Marines and civilians employed at the United States Marine Corps (USMC) bases, camps, depots and stations around the globe, it has reportedly enhanced the protection of its personal by installing AtHoc Emergency Mass Notification System enterprise-wide, and by doing so attained compliance with its force protection mandates.
